KT by-election should not be used to judge BN
Wednesday, 07 January 2009 00:08
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that the upcoming by-election in Kuala Terengganu should not be used as the yardstick to judge the Prime Minister, himself or Datuk Ahmad Said, the Terengganu Mentri Besar’s influence. He said ”This not a yardstick or a referendum on me, the Prime Minister or the Mentri Besar. This is about the people of Kuala Terengganu, about choosing the best man to represent them. I have already told the Barisan machinery to explain to the voters, that if they voted for PAS, their representative will never become a deputy minister,” He added that “We are stressing this concept as a reflection of what we are doing. Our target is the people. They are our priority when we carry out any development programmes. We do not want to be too confident because we do not possess a crystal ball but we have the confidence to do better,”

Monday, 05 January 2009 23:08

Dr M calls for boycott of US products and currency
Monday, 05 January 2009 23:05
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on the world community to boycott goods and products from the United States as well as its currency as a means to pressure the US to stop supporting the attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip. He said “The people can act and they have the capacity to act. If we need to buy weapons, we can always buy them from Russia instead of the United States. The boycott will have to be a universal effort. If confined to Malaysia alone, it is not gong to be effective, but Malaysians must also play their part. We must not allow ourselves to be cowed. Even if we do little things, I think we can achieve quite a lot. There is a price to pay for everything. If we want to do something good, then there will be a price to pay. I think if you whittle down involvement with the United States, slowly we will get used to it. The United States is already paying the price for this. Their embassies have to have high walls and barbed wire all around. People hate the United States, but if they want to be hated by people it’s their business. But the support (for Israel) must stop. There are opinions that the fight between Israelis and Palestinians is about religion. The crisis is not a religious struggle between Muslims and Jews. It is a fight about territorial issues,”

Thursday, 01 January 2009 23:00
Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Khir Toyo, the former Mentri Besar of Selangor claimed that the resignation of S Manikavsagam, the MP of Kapar from the PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) signifies a start to the breaking up of the opposition party. He said “I am saying that this is the beginning for bigger things are yet to come because their (Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor) promises to the Indian Malaysians (in the state) have yet to be fulfilled. I see the problem in the party growing and the Indians will not only resign from their posts but also leave the party. But that does not happen today. We have given them (PR) nine months. We thought of giving them enough time for their honeymoon. It has been one year now. So, we will launch our move to press the PR government to implement its promises. They have made about 70 pledges. Not one has been implemented. Everything is only on paper, for example the insurance scheme for the elderly and aid for university admittance,"

Guan Eng tells Govt to buy over all highway concessions
Wednesday, 07 January 2009 00:08
Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang has called on the Federal Government to take over the major highway concessions and that in a long term, it might be a good move. He said “It would not cost much to buy over certain major highways like the North-South Expressway (NSE) or the Penang Bridge, and the Government would be able to regain the investment through toll collection. It is not expensive to buy some of these highways. For example, the NSE has been capitalised at RM8.8bil which is not very much for over 600km of road. PLUS, the operator of NSE, gains some RM1.1bil a year through tolls. Wouldn’t it be better for the Government and Malaysia’s 27 million people to gain this revenue instead of one private company?”
